The Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara (SOKEZA) indigenes residing in Borno State have pledged their support for Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasir Idris, ahead of the 2027 governorship election, assuring that members of the association will return home to vote for him.
The declaration was made during a meeting between the association’s Executive Council and the governor’s media team led by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi, in Maiduguri on Friday.
Speaking on behalf of the SOKEZA Chairman, the association’s Legal Adviser, Barrister Muhammad Kabir Aliyu, said their endorsement of Governor Idris was driven by his “purposeful and result‑oriented leadership,” which he described as unprecedented in the state’s recent history.
Aliyu noted that SOKEZA remains committed to peace, unity and the progress of its members across Nigeria. He said the group has enjoyed cordial relations with host communities in Borno, stressing that peaceful coexistence is a core value of the people of Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara.
He added that the association is willing to collaborate with the Kebbi State Government on matters affecting the welfare and development of its members, and to contribute to the state’s growth where possible. According to him, thousands of SOKEZA members returned home during the last voter registration exercise to register for the purpose of voting in Kebbi.
Aliyu expressed confidence that Governor Idris’s development strides deserved continuity, reaffirming the association’s resolve to support him in the 2027 election. He prayed for divine guidance and protection for the governor, the state, and SOKEZA members nationwide.
Commissioner Yakubu Ahmed Birnin Kebbi said the engagement was part of efforts to strengthen ties between the Kebbi State Government and indigenes living outside the state. He emphasized the importance of such interactions in understanding the needs of Kebbi citizens across the country and ensuring their concerns are communicated to the government.
He commended SOKEZA members for their solidarity and urged them to remain law‑abiding, productive, and committed to peaceful coexistence in their host communities. He also encouraged them to continue supporting the state’s leadership and development agenda.
The commissioner was accompanied by senior media aides to the governor, including Alhaji Yahaya Sarki, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity; Alhaji Aliyu Bandado Argungu, Special Adviser on New Media; Alhaji Ibrahim Abubakar Jombali, Special Adviser on Public Enlightenment and Orientation; Alhaji Abubakar Idris Zuru, Special Adviser on Strategic Communication; and Alhaji Ahmed Idris, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor.
