The wife of the Kebbi State Governor, Hajiya Nafisa Nasir‑Idris, has empowered 800 women and youths in Yauri Local Government Area with start‑up tools to help them launch small businesses and become self‑reliant.
The beneficiaries, selected from all 10 political wards in the LGA, underwent a one‑month vocational training under the NANAS Foundation. They were trained in shoemaking, bag production, cosmetology, catering, make‑up, tailoring and other income‑generating skills.
Speaking at the graduation and empowerment ceremony in Yauri, Hajiya Nasir‑Idris said she was informed that the initiative was one of the largest empowerment programmes ever carried out in the area. She assured residents that those who missed out would be included in the next phase.
“For those who were not part of this empowerment, do not worry. By the grace of God, we are coming for the second phase,” she said. “That is why I want to appeal to you all to continue to support the administration of my husband because, without him, I cannot continue to empower you.”
She also thanked the Emir of Yauri, Dr. Zayyanu Abdullahi, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Yakubu Bala‑Tafida, and other stakeholders for their support.
The SSG praised the governor’s wife for the initiative, describing it as a clear demonstration of the administration’s commitment to improving the lives of women and youths. He highlighted recent Federal Government interventions in Kebbi State, noting that President Bola Tinubu had responded positively to security and infrastructure requests made by Governor Nasir Idris.
He recalled that additional military and Mobile Police personnel were deployed to Yauri and Bagudo following the governor’s appeal to the President. “Since then, we have security in our area,” he said.
Bala‑Tafida also pointed to the ongoing Coastal Highway project passing through Yauri, urging residents to continue supporting President Tinubu and other APC candidates to sustain the gains recorded.
Commissioner for Solid Minerals Resources, Alhaji Garba Hassan, commended the governor’s wife and donated ₦4 million to support transportation for beneficiaries returning to their communities.
Yauri LG Chairman, Alhaji Abubakar Shuaibu‑Yauri, expressed gratitude to the governor and his family, saying the emirate had never witnessed such consistent empowerment efforts.
“We have never had it so good like this. If one of the governor’s wives is in Yauri, the other is in Ngaski, all in an effort to assist our people,” he said.
He noted that Hajiya Nasir‑Idris had visited Yauri two months earlier for another youth empowerment programme, adding that the NANAS Foundation had delivered multiple interventions for women in the area.
“Some of our married women can now make shoes and do make‑up. Today, Her Excellency is here again to empower our women,” he said, urging beneficiaries to make good use of the tools provided.
Earlier, the Coordinator of the NANAS Foundation, Aminudeen Attahiru‑Nassarawa, confirmed that 800 women and youths completed the training and performed excellently throughout the programme.
