The International Cancer Centre Abuja (ICCA) is taking a big step toward expanding cancer care in Nigeria — and it’s happening right at its Airport Road facility. The centre has signed a new Memorandum of Understanding with Singapore‑based Innova Healthcare Nigeria Limited to set up a modern, all‑in‑one oncology hub.
In a statement, ICCA’s Communications Manager, Arhyel Shadrach Ayuba, said the partnership is designed to bring essential cancer services together under one roof. That means radiotherapy, chemotherapy, surgical oncology, diagnostics, lab services and palliative care — all delivered from ICCA’s existing building.
Ayuba called the MoU “a significant step” toward fulfilling the dream of ICCA’s founder, Hajiya Turai Yar’Adua, who established the centre in 2009 with the goal of making world‑class cancer treatment accessible to Nigerians.
ICCA’s Director General, Shehu Yar’Adua, echoed that sentiment, saying the partnership moves the organisation closer to ensuring Nigerians no longer need to travel abroad for lifesaving treatment.
“When our founder first envisioned this centre, she dreamed of a Nigeria where no one would have to travel abroad or go without care altogether to survive a cancer diagnosis,” he said. “This partnership with Innova brings us a meaningful step closer to that dream.”
For Innova Healthcare, the mission is clear: make cancer care not just available, but affordable. Its Managing Director, Francis Shokoya, said the company was inspired by ICCA’s commitment to serving vulnerable communities.
“Before we reached the point of signing this MoU, we were motivated by the values and commitment ICCA’s founder brought to ensuring cancer care is available even to the most vulnerable populations in our country,” he said.
Nigeria’s cancer burden continues to grow, and access to radiotherapy and specialist oncology services remains limited. ICCA says the collaboration aims to help close that gap by expanding modern cancer care in the Federal Capital Territory. The partnership will also include training for Nigerian clinical and technical staff, plus investment in equipment and infrastructure.
Innova Healthcare Nigeria Ltd is a subsidiary of Innova Bio‑Medical Pte Singapore, which works closely with Linatech — makers of advanced cancer treatment machines, including the Venus X radiotherapy system.
